poem: Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in a Quiet Mist

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in a Quiet Mist

The total quiet of this wildlife refuge finds
a steady oscillating cricket,
the intermittent chirp and warble of a red-winged blackbird,
some songbirds improvising certain notes,
three geese heard honking overhead,
and unseen now beyond the greenery of dunes,
a constant ocean-shore white noise
like one unmanifested spirit in our midst.
